This is the official song of the World Cup 2011. Even though WC 2011 is a huge hit, this song is nowhere near the official song or Anthem of such a big Cricketing extravaganza. Sung by Shankar Mahadeven along with Ehsan and Loy, this song was flaunted for the first time at opening ceremony in Dhaka two days before the tournament kicked off. The song is cleverly?used for promotion?by ESPN – Star Cricket who are the official broadcasters of the Tournament.
So far De Ghumake can be termed as a average song and is nowhere near to Waka Waka by Shakira which was the official song of?Football WC held last year in S.Africa. In the 1st quarter final between Pakistan and West Indies at Mirpur, I heard the song dubbed in Bengali language which is a good idea.
With just six matches remaining in the tournament, “De Ghumake” is still not famous with normal Indian public. It may not be a surprise if we hear Waka Waka at Wankhede on 2nd April during the Final of WC instead of De Ghumake. It will also be a good idea to convert “De Ghumake” in Gujarati, Punjabi and Marathi to catch in some local interest as remaining encounters in India are scheduled in Ahmedabad, Mohali and Mumbai.
